Looking for some real world info on animals we may want to add to our place to help maintain grass pasture areas to help us maintain good grass heights for free ranging chickens (sheep?goats? Etc) while also (possibly) supplying something else we can use (would be great!)

First depending on size of pasture, and fencing. Goats will run ofn fencing and can go through electric fencing when they have the will to. Great animals not all will do that but some are well known for it. Depends on personality. I heard of sheep doing similar things. They will also eat the grass gone if not enough pasture. Both are more browsers then grazing animals. So it there any weeds or trees or vines they will go from the highest to lowest thing offered. Personally have only had goats and I loved them. Milk is great, before you decide on either try the milk from a local farm and also meat of both so you know which animal produce the products you like. No point in getting a dairy goat if you don't like them milk and same goes if you don't like the meat of a sheep or their milk.

Please put your general location in your avatar, it helps to know where you are. For instance, what works in Alaska, probably won't work in Texas.

How many acres do you have, is it fenced and if so, what kind of fence? Do you already have a barn or any type of animal shelter?

There are tons of information in old posts. Pick an animal that you think you would like, then start reading.

We have dairy sheep. We use electric fencing to rotate them through the pasture. We also have chickens who free range. Some of the braver chickens go into the fenced area and eat alongside the sheep. As Baymule suggested, adding location and how much land you have to work with and other pertinent information will improve the quality of responses.

We use electric fencing with our sheep with no issues.
