Oh man!! I can't choose!! I love most all breeds. Nigerian Dwarfs are good for beginners. There is so much info out there concerning the Nigerian Dwarf. I have Nigerians, La Mandchas, Kikos, Kiko percentages, and I am hoping to get some Boers, Myotonics, and some Bokis soon. I have to go just for now, but I will be back soon to help you out, give you more info, and welcome you to BYH. I will also PM you. ttyl

Nigerians are great beginner goats. Lots of info out there about them. There is also so many of them and breeders, so you can't go wrong with them. Pygmys are very much much the same. Lots of info and all that good stuff. Nigerians only get to maybe 80 pds. Pygmys idk because I don't have any but they are smaller. They can be pretty much any color. Both are "milk goats." They are more of a fun pet than a milk goat though. The Nigerian can give a quart a day though!! Pygmys less.

My fav goat is the Kiko. The get to about 250+ pds for bucks. Does maybe 200. There horns are huge!! The never stop growing. I like the Kiko mostly because they have very little to no parasite issues. You worm very rarely and some never need worming. You also don't have to trim hooves, some you do, of course. Kikos are very low maintenance goats. They are meat goats.

Boers are very good goats too, but have some issues. Some get very big, 300 pds for some bucks. Does about 150-200, sometimes bigger. Some of the most beautiful goats in the world!! I love them because I know so many people that have them. The downside is that most all Boer goats have HUGE worm issues. Unless you are in Texas where it is hot and dry, they will have big worm problems. Boers were breed in South Africa so that's why they have a hard time in the wetter climate. Because of that their hooves need a lot of attention, too. I know so many people with them that say sometime they go out and there's another dead goat. I happens to too many I know. Some lines have good resistance to worms, which is the goats I would buy. Some are reasonably priced but some are outrageous!! It is a very good goat for young kids, as they show very well in 4-H and are very docile. Boers are also meat goats.

La Manchas are the nicest goats out there!! You find a nicer goat and I'll eat my hat. They get about 110 pds and are a wonderful dairy goat. The produce at least a gal of milk a day. The have very tiny ears which turns most off, including me. Well now that I have one, I love her more than any other goat. You don't even notice the ears!! I can't even begin to tell you how much I love her. I will be here all day long!! She loves people too!! They are dairy goats.
