Hi everyone...
I am new to Back Yard Herds. We have goats, chickens, pigs, rabbits, cats, and dogs. We also have 8 children , with 7 still being in our home. I was born and raised in California and moved here about 18 years ago and have been living the country life and enjoying it for about 9 years now. I hope to learn a lot here and to meet people that love raising critters like I do.

Wow 7 kids still at home! I would have loved a large family but I don’t think I could have handled so many especially since I homeschool my twins.

I once had a pet pig, Hammy, but he passed away due to a heatstroke and I don't think I’ll ever get another pig. He was the best piggy ever.

I have a small herd of misfit goats. I only have two females because we don’t want a million goats and every time they reproduce I want to keep them all 😂 I am hoping to milk one of the females when she gives birth in June.

Nice to meet you. We have 3 pet mini pigs named Prince Julian, Sadie, and Harley. They are a blast. We have had about a dozen goats for several years but we will be keeping 7 girls from this year's kids and I am super excited to be growing our herd to 20. Currently we have 13 kids and just sold one of our bucklings last week. The others are to young to sell.

Welcome from Texas! Where do you live? If you put your location on your avatar, forgive me, on cell phone and it doesn’t show up. If you haven’t put your general location on your avatar, please do so, it’s kinda nice to know where people are. If you need advice or help, what works for me in Texas, might not work in Alaska. LOL

Congratulations on a nice bunch of animals. A word of warning……… we are great enablers! If you are still thinking about getting a new goat, chickens or pigs, we are ALWAYS real encouraging! Hahaha!

I had 20 goats once and it just wasn't for me. I feel like I can spoil them more with just 8 than when I had 20.

I am looking forward to having more goat kids. But I need to find a way to keep the intact males away from my females so they don’t try to mount them. I just hate keeping them penned up especially with summer approaching. Right now they run together because they’re pregnant and the girls are slightly larger than the males so they don't get messed with for now.

Maybe try a buck apron, I heard they can be pretty successful. We no longer keep bucks (this is our first year doing this). My neighbor offered for us to use his bucks since he has a larger herd. I have had many accidental kidding throughout the years and this has been a great option for us and has eliminated a lot of worry. Here is one of our gorgeous girls we will be keeping (not the best pic) but she is polled and has blue eyes.

Aww 🥰 she is very pretty!!
And I will have to look into buck aprons. Didn't know that was a thing.

I love my two bucks that’s the only reason I have them. If not I would have sold them.
