We’re getting some new doelings to add to our herd and I was introduced to a new term; dappled. Turns out we already have two dappled goats that I had just been calling spotted. We’re getting another dappled doeling, and I’d like to know what the price of dappled goats usually is, since according to the person we’re getting them from dapples usually produce dapples.

Depending on the location and on a goat being purebred or not, dapples usually go for a bit more than regular colored ones.

I have no idea how much they go for now because I have gotten out of goats and now only have a small herd of misfits 😂

Color sells! No matter the animal. People gravitate to pretty, different, unique.

What I want to express is that you look at the animal as if it were solid colored. IF the conformation is correct, personality as desired, fit for purpose so far as defects, then consider buying. A herd sire with bad conformation but great color is a waste of money, in the long run. A doe with bad udder, crooked legs, great color....just an expensive pet.

Spotted is different from dappled. ;). Yes, dapples are hot pasture items and they will charge 20-50% more if they can get it. Genetically they can pass the color, not 100% unless homozygous for the pattern.

I decided to go through with getting two dapples, a doeling and a buckling.(in that order)
