Right now our pasture is still pretty full of green grass but its October here in Northern WI and I can see it slowly browning day by day as the weather is getting colder and colder. I am thinking end of October I will have to begin feeding Hay. I have 6 ewes and a ram and looking in to getting a wether also here so that's 8 sheep total to feed. We bale our 40 acres that isn't pastured which gives us 40 BIG bales we give his brother who has cows most of the bales. I have 5 bales we are pretty sure their is about 25-30 small squares in each bale. The hay is mostly grass pasture they have been on all summer. Do you think 5 bales is enough? We are building our livestock shelter which will be big enough for me to walk into and I am thinking I will put a feeder like Premier has but with our own cattle pannels and put the hay in their inside the shed hoping to waste less..

I was thinking of purchasing some pure Alfalfa small squares to add to their diet. And they will be supplemented a bit with feed specially the ewes. My Ram and wether will be in a smaller pasture with only one of the those big metal huts so their hay will be outside in a feeder and they will get a bit of grain also.

We get snow usually no later then December- end of March and sometimes will get it in November starting.

I don't know what your winter/feeding season is like or how long it is. I start feeding in the begining of Oct. till the end of May, temps ranging from 3 degrees C to -40 degrees C. On an average, I go through 1 and a half a big round bale per sheep! (1200 -1500lb round bales)
