Good Morning Group,

I'm a new member as of this morning. My wife and I have three Nubian/Nigerian Dwarf goats; a buck and two does. We also have several dogs and a variety of poultry species. We are new to goats and rather ignorant of them. I hope to learn fast.

These pictures are not recent as the kids are now grown; though not much bigger.

Welcome!

If you are planning to make cheese, those Nigerians may not give you enough milk. Making cheese takes a lot of milk. However, you will have fun with them, learn about goats, and they will not take up as much space. Then if you decide to go in heavily for cheese making you can always upgrade to standard dairy goats which will give you a lot more milk with less milking. Stay away from Toggenburgs or Togg crosses unless planning on a very sharp cheese, their milk tastes terrible! Nubin is my preference for taste followed by LaMancha. I don't care much for the Swiss breeds' milk. We have kept all of them for house milk and raised our children on goat milk. Made ice cream, etc. Custard made with Nubian mik and duck eggs is over the top rich! Yummy! :drool

Thanks to all for the welcome. Mostly the three goats are my pets; something I've wanted since childhood. There's just the two of us and the does will give all the milk we'll want; even if not enough for cheese.
