One of my Does got sneaky today when I had to make a day trip out of town....had her twins.... We returned to find them in the barn laying there all dried off, one with a horribly swollen face and ears....the other slightly swollen face ears swollen too. I'm guessing mosquitoes or ants got them. What a mess! We ran in the house with them. One that was less swollen was trying to nurse (doesn't seem mom is making much, if anything....(when it rans it pours!)...mixed some colostrum powder and they both ate....I have quite a bit of experience with goats and can't think of anything else it could be but bites and never had to deal with them....thinking of giving a dose of ban amine...no benydryl in the house....no fever, just two hungry babies with swollen faces. :( .....what a way to be greeted on your birthday!!

If they are breathing normally and eating normally, then I would just wait 24 hours and see if the swelling subsides. If it is insect bites then banamine isn't going to be extremely helpful...benadryl would be much better. I would just wait and see and if at 24 hours you don't see improvement go get some benadryl and administer for another 24-48 hours watching for improvement.

Hmm....sounds to me like possibly they came out head first and were there for a while? Seems odd that it would happen to both of them though. Whatever it is, I hope it subsides quickly!

I would be giving them a shot of Banamine to help the swelling go down. If the swelling is stopping them from eating properly, then to me that is a problem.
