Please give me some advise or your stories on how your bunnies handled the nuturing. My two boys will be nutured at 4 1/2 months. They are indoor rabbits and not planning on breeding. How did they take it? What good advise can you give a novice who is trying to do the right thing and build a strong trust with my bunnies. Do bunnies take this operation in stride? Or are there emotional scars that I need to be prepared when i bring them home afterwards?

Thanks for your help.

I have done the snip snip to hundreds of rabbits. The younger the better as they haven't developed any male sexual agressive behavior issues and it seams easier on them then. As soon as the proceedure is done, I just put them back into their cages with their littermates and they just go back to business as usual. They don't need any extra medication or fancy "overnight observation" by a Vet., just watch for flies for a day or two. They become quite docile couch potatoes.

I had my male neutered just over a month ago. The vet recommended keeping him separate from the female for a month "just in case". However, I put his 3.5month old daughter in with him a couple of weeks ago for company and he immediately tried to mount her (her head, her back, basically her whole body!). I haven't tried him with my adult female yet as she just had another litter. I hope that I didn't get him done too late and now he is conditioned for mating even though he doesn't have testicle anymore...:hu

Thank you so much for your replies. I appreciate it. Being new to the "Bunny World" I just don't want to do anything to lose their trust.

So basically just let them be for a few days. Like when I first brought them home to get used to their new surroundings. Not to stress them out. Let them calm down because they will both being going through it at the same time.

Yes, I did read a lot that you should get them nutured early before the tendencies start. Thanks for that advise. I'm not breeding them. They are our pets which we adore and spoil. It's our way. Our dog Jake is the same way. Only one issue, he thinks the bunnies are now his. He's good with them. I approve of purebred New Jersey Mutts.

And I see no pain medication is needed? This is good. Any thoughts on keeping them away from their incision. Our Rabbit Vet stated they will be internal and will dissolve. How about them licking the area? Any experiences or suggestions are deeply appreciated.
