I want to raise my own beef and planning to have one steer with one donkey on a small pasture.
Question: Is that enough company or is it better to have 2 steers ?

I would just have two steers. Not only can you eat the second steer, animals prefer companionship of their own species.

Do you already have the donkey and are just considering putting the steer in with him or are you considering buying a donkey AND steer? If you already have the donkey I(in my totally unprofessional and naive opinion!) would put them together. BUT if you have the opportunity two get two steer I myself would prefer to do that.
Is a donkey and 2 steers out of the question? Perhaps that'd be a happy compromise if it's possible :D

Thank you Guys...... 2 steers and a Donkey are not out of the question but only if yaall think that would be better. I just prefer to raise one steer as that is all the meat we need for ourselves.
We have not bought the Donkey or the steer yet.
