Once again I drove 3 1/2 hour ONE WAY to pick up my feed.

I can't settle for what is offered in the local feed stores and want to get a better price than 12 -13 dollars for processed bakery leftovers. (I want the good whole grains for my 4 legged and 2 winged friends).

I have looked and looked online for a place to custom mix for me. There is a place relatively nearby (Ventura Grain) but they will only mix 3 tons of one thing at a time.

I usually have 1/2 ton goat feed, 1/2 ton chick starter, & 1 ton layer custom mixed for me at R & R Writes in Lanesboro, MA (Can't get further west), but I'm in Plymouth (can't get further east).

There HAS to be some farm (or something) somewhere closer who could do this service!

Any leads would be greatly appreciated. It was almost $200 in fuel!!

Well, all I can offer is the suggestion that you look on the bright side. Out here in the west...I'd be more than happy to make that drive to get feed. If I want to go pick it up I have a 14 hour drive to the closest feed mill.

Have you tried Cargill Animal Nutrition in NY? I get custom grain from them and it's a 2 ton min. and they deliver ;)

No, I haven't. But right now 2 tons of any particular feed is a bit much. But, I can get that mixed at Ventura Grain at that quantity.

But luckily, I have been able to combine trips out that way (western MA) to pick up 1/2 a ton at a time.

And now layer feed at my local Agway is close to $17 after tax!

I think I am going to start a thread for people to post all the places they know of to get grain custom mixed. They can put the min quantity and any particulars.

~Cheers
