I hear the term "open" ewe and wonder if that means the same as a barren ewe? One three year old ewe has never had a lamb. Two summers ago she appeared to be pregnant and grew a little udder (which she still has) and was butted hard by the ram and we wondered if she lost it? She is now finishing a 5 day treatment of injections of Cystorelin we got from the local vet.

Any information would be appreciated...she is a sweet ewe and a pretty ewe and we hope this works!

To me, barren would suggest that they are unable to get pregnant. Open means they are able to be bred, but are not currently bred.

Open just means not bred but was most likely exposed. Or at least that's how it is used for around here. Just remember ewes can not take for all sorts of reasons not just because they're barren
