Our German Wirehaired Pointer who had been a stray and NEVER went into heat in the 4 1/2 years we have had her gave us a big surprise January 17 - puppies! The dad is our Boxer.

Not sure how they turned out black and white, but they all did. Since they looked like GWPs we had their tails docked and dewclaws removed. We kept two and found great homes for the others. When they left us they went having had their first shot, were on heartworm preventative and wormed, although their tummies did not look wormy. We sent everyone to their new homes with a bag of dog food and records. We did everything we could to get them off to a good start. Mom was spayed half way through birthing when she had an emergency c-section.

Our pups have not been wearing collars but tonight we put collars on them because they were playing too crazy and we needed something to hold on to when we were calming them down.

Not long afterwards LG looked REALLY bad. His tail was down. His back was arched. He was not moving. He kept watching me. I held him and looked him over really well and was thinking we were going to have to make an emergency trip to the vet.

Then a light goes off in my head! The collar! I took it off and he was suddenly back to his normal puppy self.

These are our kids. Idgie has the black mask.

Other than becoming something I hate . . . an irresponsible dog owner, at age 61, no less, and having to spend a small fortune on the emergency c-section and milk replacer to supplement, I had a GREAT time with the new puppies!

Idgie and LG are a handful, but they keep each other entertained and my Boxer is just great with them. He opens up that alligator mouth of his and just giggles his head as the puppies play with his face.

We sold the puppies for $75 each. With the economy being what it is I was worried no one would buy them. BUT we had one family drive over 2 hours to pick theirs up, and another over 2 1/2 hours. They took the puppies that looked most like English Pointers and showing no signs of getting the wire hair. And both had experience with Pointers. Who could ask for more! Another family drove an hour. The other was fairly close by; about 30 minutes away.

Sorry, I cannot help myself . . . more pictures . . .

I don't think you were irresponsible at all. The dog was a stray and never came into heat in all that time....it would be a safe bet she was already spayed. I would have made the same assumption. You did the responsible thing and provided excellent care of all concerned and you found great homes for the babies. The entire family is beautiful!

Wow, they are adorable. I see the boxer expressions on their faces! Glad everything worked out and the mama did ok. Good job raising the pups and sending them off with vaccines etc.
