This is our first breeding season and it's so obvious that our doe is in heat! I thought we'd have no idea-have to get a buck rag, etc. Her tail is continuously wagging and she's dripping back there. And our buckling (her kid) is right around the corner and she's trying to climb the fence to get to him I assume. I closed his stall door just in case!! So we can't find a Togg buck anywhere around for service, but my choices are either an Alpine or a Nubian. I think the Alpine cross would be great and their faces are pretty similar to a Togg. The colors may come out pretty in variations. What do you think?

I love my cross-breed goats. The most important thing is that the buck you choose is from a clean herd and is healthy. What will you do with the offspring? If you want to produce milking does, look at the buck's female relatives, if possible, and choose that way. If the offspring will be sold as pets, look at personality and looks. If for meat (I don't get this sense from you) then look for size.

Is it maybe time to band that buckling? :p

I would go w/ the Alpine instead of the Nubian. Increases your likelihood of 'pure' looking kids.

Floppy ear + erect ear often = airplane ears.

I'm an ear purist.
