Pee Dee, our 3 month old disbudded Nubian buckling, has scurs. I know he is going to have at least a scur on one side and maybe on the other. Right now the biggest scur is about 1/4" big and about the size of a pencil in diameter. Is there an option to remove the scur safely on him while it is still small and he's young?

Our little buckling named Billyboy was born 4/10/11 and we disbudded him one week later. We just didn't hold the iron on long enough, I guess.

He was growing some really big spurs. We had the vet out to check something else and had him to reburn Billyboy. He was 25 days old. The vet had to hold the iron on for a long time, but he is fine now. It was done 3 days ago.

I had to leave the barn, I couldn't stand it. But I want to keep him for a herd sire, he's a beautiful little palamino boy. I SURE DON'T WANT A GOAT WITH HORNS. My one horned goat sure knows she has them. She's a rescue goat. We keep the tips cut off, but I do know I don't like horns. I'm very careful around her.

He's was a bottle kid, so he is super easy to handle, but he is getting big so I will most likely need somebody to help me hold him down. So, just to get more opinions - what to the rest of you think about reburning him?

I would reburn, too.

It is really, REALLY a lot harder to hold a 3 mo. old buckling down than you'd think....

I had a guy bring a 3 mo. old boer wether to be reburned the other day. I handed him the towel we wrap them in and he said, "What's that for?" I said, "For YOU to wrap him in / hold him with...Don't think I'm playing bucking bronco with your goat."

(He was supposed to bring him back a month ago....)

Some bucks can be tough...But I would reburn as soon as you can. Scurs are not fun. We bought a buck from another farm and his scurs are a mess. I am trimmin one monthly cuz it curls into his head. When we got him..he was too old to reburn. But I cant stress enough...do it while you can scurs can be an issue for them forever! So one bad day for them is well worth a lifetime of issues!!

Good luck. Im not good with the disbudding at all. My husband deals with that!! It bothers me too much, so its not worth me being around.
I dont even try to be in the barn anymore lol..too chicken.

We are going to reburn him.

Those of you who have done this before - would it be easier to put in on the stand and lock him in or wrap him up in something? Or use the stand AND hold his body down? I would hate to burn his face or an eye or something.

I've never tried to burn anything on the stand....

I do however feel like when I have them under me, wrapped in a towel, w/ my left hand over the back of their neck and dh holding the muzzle, I have the most control.
I use my right hand to operate the disbudding iron.

DONE!!! We put him on the stand and held him down, which seemed to work pretty well. One side needed the figure 8 done and the other just needed a circle, which was actually the biggest scur. We'll keep an eye on it to see if that solved the scur issue or if we need to make a touch up in a few weeks.
