I went out to check on very pregnant Brownie, who this morning not only had a big change in her udder size, but also had signs of scours (all over her tail, anal area and hind legs). Her sister, Pepper also had udder change overnight and I thought that she was beginning labor this afternoon with some whitish-clear goo, but most likely it was just her mucous plug. She was lying on the ground with legs partially extended, making soft grunting noises with every breath, and had a small amount of whitish-clear goo exiting her lady parts. She didn't rise from her lying position and I thought she was in labor, but she has since been up all over the place acting her normal self, eating like a pig and constantly begging for food. I would say she's in early labor, but most likely she will make a liar out of me. She still has her ligaments, but they are much thinner and very mushy. This is her first freshening, so I will keep a close eye on her. You know first-time mothers sometimes aren't sure what the heck has happened when they give birth and babies can be lost with an inexperienced mother not cleaning up the babies so they can breathe.

As far as Brownie, bless her little heart, I don't believe I could think of anything worse than having diarrhea and being in labor! I would think it's bad for momma, baby(ies) and anyone assisting. Imagine having to push out a baby with a case of diarrhea. Not good, not good at all! I've given her 2 doses of Pepto-Bismol and tried to give her some warm electrolyte solution, but I couldn't keep Nell out of it and she slurped it down before Brownie could even get to it, despite all my efforts at trying to hold Nell back! Silly goat! I guess she remembers the one time I gave it to her when she ate something a few months back that gave her an awful case of the scours. Must be tasty stuff to goats. Looks like Tang when made up and the main ingredient is dextrose, which is sweet tasting. I'll try again in a little while to get Brownie to drink some. I don't think she's in labor, but it's difficult to tell at this point. Her ligaments have been thinning out for several days and are mushy too and again, the changes in her udder over the last 24 hours.

I will keep you guys posted, not withstanding doe code in effect!o_O
