Here's a picture of the 6 acre pasture in front of our house. This is the herd sire and his companion's field. You can see the little bluestem grass. It's the grass in clumps. In the mornings it has a blue tinge to it.

In fact, most native grass grows in clumps. That's where the wild birds, quail especially, like to nest.

DH planted this about six years ago. He has cut it once about 6 weeks ago for hay. Since then we have had exactly 1 inch of rain and you can see it's growing. Hopefully that's because there is moisture down deep in the ground.

We got that one inche about 10 days ago, so we are not hurting like the folks in Western Oklahoma, the climate there is much dryer.

However, now we are having the little "spot showers" that dump 2 inches on somebody 5 miles North of here, and we don't get any, or vice-versa....

There's a lot of people about 100 miles NW of here that were burned out last Friday. Most of them poor country folks with no insurance. That's what really hurts. They have to start over with nothing from nothing... it's hard because a lot of them are elderly too.

We can always give thanks for what we do have.
