Here's a picture of the 6 acre pasture in front of our house. This is the herd sire and his companion's field. You can see the little bluestem grass. It's the grass in clumps. In the mornings it has a blue tinge to it.
In fact, most native grass grows in clumps. That's where the wild birds, quail especially, like to nest.
DH planted this about six years ago. He has cut it once about 6 weeks ago for hay. Since then we have had exactly 1 inch of rain and you can see it's growing. Hopefully that's because there is moisture down deep in the ground.
