Hello,

I have a late teens to 20 year old mare. When the snow hit, here in Maine, I noticed that when she peed it was pinkish. I don't think that she is in heat, because she is not swollen and she should be done for the year. My friend suggested that it could be that she was eating a lot of the mineral block that I have out, but I put a fresh one out a couple of days ago and it has barely been touched! She also said that it could be a problem with her kidneys, or a urinary tract infection... I have only had her since July so I don't know a lot about her. And she was a rescue so I don't know a lot about her past either... :/ What do you think? Other ideas? Should I just wait to see if the color of it changes?

Thankful in advance for any and all suggestions!

I see you got no other suggestions.

In my experience with winter snow, the urine will appear to be strange colors. Locally, snow urine is usually orange!
Horse has no problems, just that urine makes the snow orange after running thru to the ground.

I would not worry about it, if horse displays no other problems. Someplace there is a scientific
explanation, but I don't have any links at the moment. I haven't ever heard of any horses having
problems after urinating the odd color urine.

I would only worry if the urine coming out of the horse is really dark. Not what urine on the ground looks like,
only urine coming out of the animal. Dark to black-looking urine is a serious problem, you need to call the Vet.
