We have 3 LGDs 2 fullblood anatolians and 1 half anatolian pyr mix. The anatolians have free room of the yard and 1 jumps the fence and gets in with the goats if she hears something out in the pasture. They aren't very people friendly just notice your there then back to laying by the fence. If Heidi jumps the fence and goes out back Rusty will run around the perimeter to where Heidi is barking. And then there is Skeeter he is the mix we took him in when he started killing one of our friends chickens. Our chickens are cooped so there isn't a problem. We had some friends come over and help us work some goats and they got here before we got home. They seen a goat with its head caught and went in to free her when Skeeter charged at the fence barking when we got here our friends asked if he was mean and we explained to them he was doing his job protecting his herd from what he thought was danger. Anyway we were out the other evening doing something when our LGDs started raiseing a ruckus. Next thing we saw was a coyote headed across the field with Rusty hot on his heels. I seen that and watched in amazement at the beauty. He's usally just a big lumbering dog but doing what he was bred for was like poetry in motion. The coyote out smarted him this time, the coyote headed for the road and Rusty was going to head him off by staying in the field running along the bales but it looked like the line of bales were longer than he thought cause when he got to the end and got to the road the coyote was gone. He stood there and looked around and sniffed the ground and nothing you could see how dissappointed he was but I got goose bumps watching that chase and haven't seen the coyote anymore he must have decided to keep a lower profile. We can rest pretty easy at night knowing that our dogs no there jobs and take care of things. Knock on wood we have yet to lose any sheep or goats to predation. Plus our extra insurance is our donkeys they are also in with the sheep and goats. Anybody else have stories of guardians caught doing their jobs I would like to hear them.

My neighbor, across the street, had his LGD chase a coyote up and over the hill untill he reached the coyote pack... all that was left that the neighbor could find was the head and hide. RIP.
