Snowy kidded last night, one single little doe kid. I noticed this morning that you cannot get milk out of one side of her udder. We had called our vet - he prescribed 8cc/ml of penicillin and 5cc of a steroid (called Pred.. 2X - cant remember full name). We gave her the shots, and are doing warm compresses/massages every hour and attempting to milk her out. We have gotten a few drops each time. We have pulled Eve from her as I don't think Eve was getting enough to eat. We are bottle feeding her every 3 to 4 ours with 3 to 4 ounces of the powdered goat colostrum.

Does it sound like we are doing things right? Any other suggestions?

It sounds like you are doing what you can. Did the doeling get colostrum from mom? If you can milk out mom's one side and give her that, I think that would be better than the powdered stuff. Keep working on that side with the mastitis.

Good luck with her. You will have to post pictures of your new little one. :D

The steroid would be Prednisone, probably. Sounds like you're doing ok. I just went through the same on one of my does.

She is still having an awful time with that one side of her udder. I'm going to see how it looks this morning, and if I can't get anywhere with it, we are taking her into the vets.
