Powdered Goats Milk

Can powdered goats milk be used in lieu of milk replacer? I am running short of fresh goats milk and I can't find anyone in my area that has fresh goats milk.

Walmart does sell by the quart pasteurized goats milk for $4.00 but that can get costly for me to feed 10 baby alpines.

We do whole cow's milk and have had better luck than with anything else. Plus, it is easy to pour and no mixing. You can get it pretty cheap too if you go to Walmart on a Wednesday and ask them to "do a price match"...they will check their sales list and change the price to match whoever has the cheapest in town (I can usually get it for less than $2 a gallon).

I raised a bunch of kids on calf milk replacer, NO SOY strictly the whole milk kind. I added fresh goat milk to it and my babies did great. It was a life saver for us to have that to supplement the kids with. They had good growth and we never had any issues at all. We use a bucket with nipples all around and just put milk in it morning and night, they ate as they wanted, worked great.

We were doing half goats milk and half cows milk due to the does slowing up on producing milk.

Can we do half replacer and half cows milk?

are you talking store bought cow milk? We ran out of the milk replacer, didn't have long to go for weaning so we started using store bought whole cow milk and mixed with our goat milk, they did ok, but then we started getting crooked legs (mineral imbalance) and we just quit cold turkey. I don't know if it was the pasturized milk that did it, but I suspect it. Raw cows milk sure, or just the replacer. We fed ours a lot of feedings with just the replacer. This is just my experience, I know there are a lot more people with more experience but the calf replacer with NO SOY, just whole milk replacer worked great for us. I am sure I will be using it again next year.

Yes I was referring to store bought cows milk. The first goats we picked up were fed milk replacer by the person we bought them from. These babies had very runny poop. We had them on 100% boats milk from our does. unfortunately when we need goats milk from our girls they decide to give less and less milk so we had to cut it 50/50 with store whole milk.

We did buy the calf milk replacer with no soy added today at TSC.

In this past week we first b ought 2 alpine doelings & a LaMancha doeling plus an Alpine buckling. Today we added 8 LaMancha, 1 Nubian & 1 Alpine doelings from a dairy that once a baby is born and no one comes to buy them they are destroyed.

I'm not one for the goat milk replacer since all I see babies that have been fed the goat replacer come down with very runny poop & sour stomach. I'm hoping the calf milk replacer will not bring these symptoms out on these babies.

I was told from the lady at the commercial dairy I got my goats from that they feed this way when they don't have enough extra milk for the babies, figured she would know what she was talking about since they had like 75 does they birth out every year.
