Hi everyone. This is our second breed with our goat. Last couple of days I have noticed that she has been by herself and NOT moving at all. I have had to bring food/water to her. She was lying down and I approached with friends and she did not even get up or acknowledge us. This is very strange for her. Today I took her out of the paddock to hang out with me and the horses. I set her up by my hay shed and she stayed there literally ALL DAY! Could not get her back to her house. She just laid down when I tried to bring her over. She is not due until March 14th and think she is really acting strange way too early. Nevertheless, she is still laying by hay shed, I at least got her inside and set her up with water and of course hay. Has not moved, expect she will be there in the morning. Just wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this. Thanks.

Just look up ketosis and I don't think it is that. She is still eating. Will move for the grain bucket, just slowly. I have been feeding her 3 cups of grain (mare & foal pellet), along with some black oil sunflower seeds, oats, and pregnancy supplements daily. Hay is always now and on occasion (weekly) she gets some mash, beet pulp with alfalfa/timothy hay cubes. Can't imagine she is not getting enough food.

Get the vet now! Symptoms sound exactly like the goat I had that died after a week of that behavior. Could be meningeal worms or goat polio. You really need to get her checked out. I hope your doe recovers ASAP.

Location
Virgnia
could be any number of things,

Parasites
pneumonia
pregnancy toxemia.

Check her gums, do they look pale?

take her temperature, is it normal?

Do you have any goat vitamins, medicines at your farm, such as wormers, bo-se injectable, vitamin B complex injectable?

A drenching syringe or a way to drench her?

Well, thanks everyone but all is OK. Temp. is normal along with gums and eye color. Went to a friend and had a sonogram, what a hoot! Her babies are looking well and I think she is just tired. Heading into her last month and this is her second time. She is doing well physically. She is eating, drinking, just not moving around. She seems to like lying around in the house on the comfy straw so we set her up real nice. Thanks for all of the information.
