I have looked up and read and watched all the youtube videos I can find to try and handle my anxiety of this situation.. Let me start from the beginning....... My daughter got me a Pygmy goat for my birthday this past year. I got her around this past thanksgiving. The guy she bought her from was very vague to say the least. Monkey (the pygmy goat) was 2017's spring kid, was raised with a buck durring the day and seperated at night. (I apoligize for my spelling.) Anyways... I was informed the goat was most likely pregnant due to the fact of her personality changes and filling out her middle.
Ive always wanted a goat so either way I was very excited, I went out and got her CD&t vacine due to the fact she hadnt been givin it before, (to my knowledge). Over the last couple of months Ive watched her grow, come asociated with her habits likes, dislikes ect. Her udder had been forming, right side belly had waves of elbows , legs, moving parts. I took her for walks, I spent lots of time with her.
About 5 days ago now, I went to "hang out" and noticed she has very noticibly dropped. Udder hasnt been really tight nor shiney. I dont understand completely about the ligs, ive tried, sometimes I feel them and sometimes not. I didnt understand when the reading said the goats flanks would show. She was just doing different stuff, slowed down, didnt always meet me at her door. When I left she laid infront of the door for my return now. She laid down a lot. So i started sitting with her talking and watching her. (shes an only goat for now) she doesnt find my chickens or ducks amuzing.
Now... 2 nights ago, I went and gave her her bedtime snack... OMG! I see now what seeing the flanks ment. Her poor belly looked like a ball of tightness, she laid there, "contractions" on and off, as she would moan and breathe loudly otherwise. she would get up, shift her belly, paw at the bedding uncomfortably lay back down, front knees first then sliding around to get her back legs right to not lay on her udder. No actual pushing, No discharge of any sort. She would get up step up on her feeder stretch way back (as i read.. Goat yoga) I would give her a treat and shed lay back down, same process over and over. Then stopped and slept.. Checked on her several times that night, 2 hours of sleep (me).
Yesterday she was still uncomfortable, up and down, pawing, stretching, munching on a little hay and pick through her grains. Now she started rubbing on her feeder, not to itch but as to rub her horns (which she doesnt have) and almost looked like she was trying to slide her sides down out her vulva. (which is trippled in size and slightly open. Gets bigger opening then closes up a lil) Today I actually seen the plug but then it closed back up a lil. Last night she started the "contractions" heavy noise filled breatheing, but now rubbing her head on her post, almost petting herself. Kind of softly butting the wall. Then around 3am she just relaxed and started chewing her cud. Now this morning, shes cranky. I swear she thinks she has horns. Hasnt had much sleep, now mind you she has pawed up all over her stall, got little holes everywhere, where she wants to lay at that time. Vulva looks open, not widely but noticeably
I am loosing my mind, my kids think im crazy for worring about my goat the way I do. Its not the fact I would interfere if i wasnt needed, I would love to watch the birth. Also I dont want Monkey to feel alone. Her back end looks like jello, very relaxed, her tail it crooked like a hook. Her back legs are faced out. Please Please help me. Give me advise, Is this preprelabor, ? am I even close to having a clue?
Thank you for your time and reading my huge story.

Sounds like it might be....can you get pics of her back end and udder? Also if you go to YouTube you can find a video that demonstrates how to feel for ligs.

Ive got some pics of Monkey. The one that shes in a shelf is my first pic of her when I got her in November. The rest of the pics are from the past three days. I put a coat on her (which she loves) when we go for our walks. Its been very cold her lately. The next time I go out to check on her I will get an udder pic.

She's definitely got an udder, but it doesn't look to be real full yet. You'd be the one who would know how much it has changed. I'm guessing she needs that udder to fill more and get tighter before she's ready. My best advice - watch some YouTube videos about feeling ligaments, keep an eye on her discharge, and watch that udder for changes - they can be quick! Hope it goes well!

I have been doing this kidding stuff for 8 years and they still make me crazy. I have a few this year with no known due dates so I am watching them closely. One of them I swore was starting labor three weeks ago, I was ready to lock her in a kidding pen and then it stopped. She started in again yesterday and still nothing. For some reason feeling for ligs is lost on me so I just watch for udders most of the time but even that can fool you.

Good luck, hope that it happens soon.

The last time I went out to check her and take the udder pics, for the very first time, she let me pet her, from neck to tail. Shes never let me do that, so yeah I took complete advantage of that. But today she wouldnt walk with me, we normally put her coat on (a xl dog coat) and walk around in my snow blown path, I had to really bribe her to even step out of her shed. This all is all so exciting yet stressful. Monkey is almost I would say Bipolar with her moods these past few days. I know for one thing the poor girl is very uncomfortable. Itd be so much easier if I could just either sleep out in the stall or have her in the house. But neither would work. I thank you for listening to me vent, it feels better to chat with people whom understand what i am goign through. I see we all have to guess whats actually going on with them. Thanks again. Happy Kidding!!

https://tyny.com/ligaments.html Here's a good explanation and diagrams of checking ligs. For me, the best way is to check a doe that isn't pregnant...the ligaments are about the diameter of a pencil and rock hard in a doe who is not getting close to kidding. They almost feel like bones instead of ligaments. Once you know what they're "supposed" to feel like you can start feeling a doe that is later in pregnancy and follow her progress. When they are soft enough that you basically can't feel them... keep a close watch on that gal!
