I would like some ideas on how to handle prevention of coccidiosis in kids. Currently, I have two 3 week old Saanen kids who are healthy. One vet told us to do nothing so the goats are able to develop an immunity and one vet said to feed Corrid Crumbles mixed with their feed to our entire herd for the rest of their lives. I don't really like either of these options as the first seems too risky and the second seems overkill. I am also reading about Baycox which seems to be working well for some goat owners but the dosage is somewhat unclear. Can anyone provide info on what works best in their experience. Thank so much.

There isn't a right or wrong answer to this. Some people do not do any type of preventative treatment. Some people do a 5 day course of Di-Methox at a couple weeks old, and then again every couple of weeks. Some people use the Corrid drench in a similar fashion as Di-Methox. I have to admit I've never heard it suggested you give Corrid crumbles their entire life. Adult animals usually do not have a problem, only kids.
We had been using the Di-Methox, but it seemed to stop working for us.
Many things can contribute to an issue with Coccidia. Crowding and sanitation, wet conditions. We've had an issue for the last two summers for both of these reasons. We are too crowded at this point and I have parts of my property that have not been dry for 2 years.

Recently we switched to Toltrazuril (active ingredient in Baycox). One dose treatment as opposed to 5 or 7 days for Di-Methox and Corrid.

For now we are repeating the Toltrazuril every two weeks. I've read others repeat at 3 weeks.

Thank you for your reply, can you advise dosage of Toltrazuril? How old are the kids when you first administer and for how long do you repeat the every two week regimen? I've seen that this can be purchased from a site in Canada; is that where you get yours from?

I sent you a personal message with a couple of links to discussions on dosage. This was confirmed with our vet.
