I have my dry does on 17% pellet and bucks also. I have my mature does on 18% protien pellets. I am having a hard time to find the 17%. I can get the 16%, But i am not interested in anything lower than 17%. If i order enough bags of the 18%.I pay the same amount as the 17%. NOw my question is can i feed the dry does and buck as the same food,Just dont give them as much?

Maybe its just me, but I feed all mine the same pellet and they appear to be doing fine. 16% Manna Pro. I do give the nursing does a tablespoon of calf manna at each feeding.

thanks. I cant get calf manna. I am in canada. But i can get some stuff from blue seal which is from the states, I can get the 17% from them. But it cost more than the 18% when i buy in bulk. That is why i was wondering if i put everyone on the same food. Just give the males and dry does less as it is higher in fat. :idunno.

If you feed all your rabbits the 18% protein feed, they'll be just fine. But I'd recommend you limit feed your bucks, dry does and jr's over 12 weeks old. In fact, if you had to choose just one feed, I'd recommend it be 18% over 16%. 18% will produce better results all day long.

Oh, and because your picture is of a Californian, I'll assume that's the type of rabbit you're referring to. For the bucks and dry does, use an empty tuna fish can for your measuring cup when feeding the 18% protein feed. Some of my Californians, NZW's and American Blues eat a heaping tun can full and some eat more of a level tuna can full.

Thanks AZ hEAT, Yes they are cals, and new zealands. I looked at your website. Love your set. Just curious how many mature does do you have?

Well, as of this weekend, I have 15 breeding does that are currently working. In a couple months my Jr's will be ready, giving me an additional 12-15 does. My full capacity (comfortably) until I'm able to expand is 35 does, plus bucks (2-3 per breed), plus Jr's (will always have Jr's to continuously improve my stock) and grow out cages for young.

After this weekend all my stock will be top quality pedigreed except for 4 does that are just too good to consider getting rid of. This includes my American Blues, Californians and New Zealand Whites. Then it's a non-stop fun process of continuously improving and fine tuning so they are the best of the best. It's fun and it's healthier than video games... ;)

It is nice to see someone working on the meat breeds instead of all the other breeds. I have to agree it is better than video games. I love my rabbits. When i have a litter due. I get so excited. I wish you live allot closer. I would love to see some of your rabbits. But the difference here is i do the commercial meat rabbits. But i do have my favorites.

Most of my pedigrees are commercial pedigrees, with an emphasis on production, size and health. The reason I like pedigrees is that I'm putting a lot of effort in improving the breeds that were developed for meat production and it's hard to find good, pure breeds that haven't been diluted with other lines from "well-intentioned" individuals. Starting with a good stock and improving on them saves time vs starting with a diluted breed. Knowing where they're coming from is key to knowing where you're taking them. That's my opinion anyways...
