Hey everyone,
Was wondering what people's doe to buck ratio is in kidding season?
Also does anyone have any theories of how to produce more doe kids than bucks?
Look forward to hearing your opinions
Cheers

We have anywhere from 50/50- 55/45 does/bucks.
Wish I had a higher % of does! Don't we all though. :p

I have heard all kinds of things... the biggest one rolling around out there is ACV in the water for the does.
Never tried it.

We've heard that too. But also increased seaweed meal and pumpkin seeds? Any suggestions or theories from others? I'd love more does too!

In the long run nature has decided it will be 50/50
Nature owes me some does this year because last was 10 bucks 5 does here :)
Some of our old timer goat friends said the cold weather last year was the reason for more bucks
Buck kids are usually larger and stronger at birth and can nurse sooner

---------------------------
2008 - 1 ewe
this ram produced 100% females for me
---------------------------
2009 - 1 ewe, 1 ram
this ram produced 50% females 50% males for me
---------------------------
2010 - 1 ewe, 3 rams
2012 - 4 ewes
this ram produced 62.5% females 37.5% males for me
---------------------------
2013 - 3 ewes, 2 rams
2014 - 3 ewes, 7 rams
this ram produced 40% females 60% males for me
---------------------------

my entire total: 13 ewes, 13 rams
Perfectly even :D

Now that my flock is grown to about the size I want, I'm not too concerned about ewe/ram ratio. They sell for the same price at auction as meat lambs.

@OneFineAcre I think that the does are stronger and up faster the bucks. Maybe it is my biased opinion :) But I agree that the bucks are typically bigger.

2014 9 does and 3 bucks
2013 9 does and 4 bucks
2012 6 does 4 bucks

2013 and 2014 same buck. 2012 2 different bucks.

Maybe I am in for a buck year. I have another new buck. One more month and the fun will start. I know of no tricks that work to get does, it just happens...or not.

my sister puts acv in her goats water all the time and she did have more does than bucks last year. almost a 2-1 ratio. i don't use acv and my ratio pretty much 50/50. had heard about the acv= more does but didn't give it much credence until now. hmmm

2012: 1doe
2013: 3 does 3 bucks
2014: 2does 3bucks

I've heard that feeding lots of pumpkin, seaweed meal & Apple cider vinegar helps produce more girls.
I've also heard that hotter & drier weather you'll get more bucks and cooler, wetter weather you'll get more does. Just theories of course
Next breeding about a month before we join our does & buck I'll add lots of pumpkin to their feed as well as free choice seaweed meal & I'll put ACV in their water. We will see how that turns out! In saying that it's coming into Summer here so it will be hot & dry!!
