Hi there! I have a question for you all. I have decided to breed rabbits for meat and have the start of my little heard. It has been many, many, many years since I bred rabbits and when I did, I lived "warm" California. Back in the day, my nest boxes were metal basically because those were the ones we could got at the local feed store!

Now that I'm in "Cold" Wisconsin, I am wondering if I can use metal nest boxes in the winter months or if I should use wood ones. My rabbits are indoors so to speak- a well ventilated barn/shed but it does not get heated so it will get cold in the barn.

So, my question is type of next box is best to use. Wood or Metal? Thanks for any advice or help you can give me!

:welcome from New Jersey

I would say that you could use wood or metal. Metal is easier to clean because wood does soak up urine if does decide to use the nest box as a litter box. But people do use wood. They also use plastic, but some advise not too because rabbits might chew the plastic. Lots of designs out there to choose from, or make yourself

And ditto on what CCourson05 stated, provide PLENTY of bedding.

Good Luck on your breeding venture.

MLH,

We are where you were (just got our starting stock). We are now looking at nesting boxes (we're in warm area). How did it all work out for you?

Thanks.
