Question about Tatooing and Registering Goats

Hello Everyone,
I have been trying to prepare for my goats kidding lately and have started to think about if I will register my goats. I was wondering what the actual process is for tatooing and registering goats? At the moment I have one pregant doe and was also wondering if I should register any bucklings she may have, which would be sold, or only the doelings, which I would keep? Thanks for the help!

If the goats are to be registered, they need to be tattooed. Your herd tattoo goes in one ear (or tail web) and the year letter and # of kid goes in the other ear. (ADGA)

Go to www.adga.org - They have the forms on their to apply for your HerdName and also for your 4 digit tatoo.

Okay, now that I have looked at the website I have more questions . First of, my parents were wondering if it mattered if they signed me up for a youth membership instead of them getting an adult membership with the ADGA? I also was wondering what purebread, american and grade reffers to on the ADGA enrollment form? Lastly, I was wondering what the tatoo choices were for on the enrollment form? Darn I feel so clueless , sorry for all the questions. Thanks again for all the help!

My wife and I as well as our 9 year old are all members.

What kind of goats do you have? Also, not sure how old you are. If you register the goats with you as the owner, you can show them in youth shows if you are interested in showing. We register in our daughters name and can show in the youth show and open shows.

A pure bred is exactly that. Full blooded pure.

For the standard breeds (not Nigerians) you can cross two full blooded registered animals of different breeds and it will be a recorded grade. Nubian x Togg, Sannen x Alpine.

If you breed a recorded grade back to 7/8 pure you register as an American ( I think that's how it works)

Our farm is called One Fine Acre.

Our tattoo is OF.

In the right ear we tattoo the OF. In the left ear there is a designation for the year. This year is D. The first kid born on the farm will be D1. Then D2, D3 and so forth. So OF in right ear D1 in left.

I don't know for sure, my wife has all of the dates. I think our earliest are not due until April. I think 4 are bred. Coleus, Katie, Taffy, and Minnie

Our fall breeding kind of got messed up. A couple didn't settle, and by the time we realized it, it was too late for them to kid in time for the spring shows, so we decided to hold back so they would be fresher for the state fair and the Mt State Fair. I think we are also going to go the Clemson Show in the fall as well.

We are getting ready to breed Cookie, Buttercup, Chocolate Kiss, Ginger, Rosmarinus, Zamia, and Hazel.
