I'm a new goat owner and need advice on what medications I need to be giving and how often and how, etc. My bottle baby is 8 weeks old today and is a Spanish/Boer. A couple of weeks ago I got a Kinder/Boer, approximately 1 year old, to keep the baby from getting lonely. I didn't do any goat research before my uncle gave me the bottle baby when it was a couple of weeks old. I stupidly thought that all I would need to do is keep it fed and watered. Silly me. Any help here would be appreciated.

There is a great goat web site called: www.fiascofarms.com. The lady is a goat expert. She does a lot of herbal treatments for her goats, but she also gives information on regular over the counter wormers and other meds.

The one thing that you have to monitor is worms in goats. They will kill them. You can take a fecal sample to a vet, and for 15 or 20 dollars they can see if they have worms, and suggest a wormer. Some wormers don't work well in some areas of the US.

Some wormers work on a specific type of worm. Also, there is a good information book: Storey's guide to dairy goats, and also Storey's guide to Meat goats.

If you are serious about taking proper care of your goats, there is a lot to know. Another good website is Goat-Link.

Good luck with your goats. I was a total newbie myself last September, now I feel as if I know about 40% of everything about goats. LOL. It is also hard to find a good goat vet. So ask before you go to just any vet.

The other thing I would suggest is to talk to a local vet or goat breeder. Sometimes what works in one area of the country doesn't work in another or visa versa. Vaccines and dewormers can be different for different parts of the country along with dosages for those vaccines and dewormers.
