My friend and I were thinking that if each of us got a rabbit (one of us a girl and the other a boy) we could breed them (just for the expierience mostly) and then sell the babies.
If we did this what breed of rabbit would be best?
Also any advice would be good cause I have never owned a rabbit. My fried has those they have had rabbits and have bred them one time.
Thanks,
Ashley

No, not really...do you have any suggestions? What sells good and is a good pet?

:welcome from New Jersey

Sounds like an awesome idea.

But first you and your friend have to ask:

What type of rabbit do you both want to sell? Will it be a meat rabbit or for pets?

If you go with a medium or larger rabbit, your litters will be bigger, so there will be more to find homes for. Unless you want meat. FYI, meat rabbits do make good pets. Expecially the Rexs. Also Champaignes are beautiful, along with Silver Foxes.

If you go with smaller rabbits (2 - 4 lbs) do you want to breed for show quality or pets? Also they have smaller litters. About 3 or 4. So you won't have to find too many homes and people are really liking smaller bunnies for pets.

Since I don't know where you are located, if you are on the East Coast, Holland Lops are very popular. They are the rabbits with the droopy ears. They are really sweet breed. Have 3 to 4 kits a litter. I have a Polish, Netherland Dwarf, and a Sable Marten. My next rabbit breed will be a Lionhead. These are all small rabbits. And they live in my house.

You and your friend should look at different breeds. Lots of info if you search to see if you would like small, medium or large rabbits to breed. Figure out what you both want and then go for it.

Hope this helps a little. Look forward to hearing what you and your friend decide. Please keep us posted.

If someone that is selling a rabbit says "Each rabbit comes with pedigree" what does that mean?

Pedigree rabbits are that, pedigree. The breeders have a lineage of a specific breed of rabbits through generations. And that line only has that specific breed of rabbit in that line. You will actually receive papers with your bunny.

The pedigree of lionheads I'm looking at are 4 generations in it.

And pedigrees will cost more, which is only fair. You actually can breed this rabbit and know you will get that breed of rabbits. Lots of rabbits out there that are mixed, which doesn't mean anything. They still can make good pets.

Hope this helps.
