Question-Winter Storm

Alrighty, I have 5 kids ages 1 month and younger. They are currently doing just fine under their heat lamp even when the temps have dipped under 10. But it has been predicted at having almost an inch of ice tonight. If that happens, I know we will lose power. Do you think they will be okay at temps in the single digits or will I need to bring them in? Is there anything else I can do to prep for them without bringing them in the house? Thanks!

I would just make sure they have somewhere warm to sleep. I have plastic dog kennels with those pet warming pads that work with body heat and another blanket in there too.

also if you have any wind drafts us plastic sheeting or even a tarp to block out the dangerous windchill. Straw for inside doghouses with maybe a blanket over it to also help with the drafts. What type of housing do you have for them, I guess I should have asked that question first.
I know what your going thru, I live in Ozark county missouri and we've been having ice almost 1/2 inch so far on the wires and trees.
Oh yeah, make sure that they have access to water if you have any strawbales-go ahead and surround with loose straw that should help insulate them if you lose any power. Good luck and so sorry to ramble on.

Other than what was mentioned above -

Do you have any people kids? Have any old fleeces or sweaters leftover from those kids from when they were babies or a year old?

Put little sweaters on the goat kids! Word of warning, though - if you have any boys be sure you cut a little notch where his wee wee would be. My buckling peed all over himself and the fleece froze to him because I didn't think of that before hand.

I just had my boys add more sawdust and straw to the pen and the dog crate. I think we will cover that crate when we go out for the next feeding. I have two doggie hoodies for the two smallest. They all huddle together to sleep so that should help. They are in the garage. I have their area surrounded with a tarp for extra draft protection. I think they should be okay ~crosses fingers~

Our two pygmies are still in with the chickens. I really want to get them out. Unfortunately, they can't go back to their enclosure and they are too big for the kids.

I was going to ask you to tell Becky (mgr. in Van Wert) that Kim from the Marion store says "Hi!".
She worked at our store for a couple mos. this summer...nice lady.
The mgr. of Decatur now (Kevin, I think..?) trained at our store a few days. I didn't care much for him, though...don't tell him I said hi.
