I have decided to expand and redo my entire rabbit barn! Would it be cheaper to buy used cages and "fix" them to fit in my barn, or to buy a roll of wire and build my own? I will be making stack cages.

Having just gone through that I would say buy cage components from a reputable dealer. If you have the same experience as me you will have a hard time finding heavy enough wire that will last from local sources. Pay the few extra bucks to get the heavy wire, galvanized after welding. It is a bit more up front but less expensive in the long run since they will last so much longer. If you can find dipped it's even better. There are several good sources but Klubertanz seems to be highly recommended by everyone who deals with them.

Because of shipping considerations you will have to assemble the precut components yourself but if you get a good Jclip pliers and use them it goes fast. It also helps to have a front nip cutter for removing the inevitable Whoops clip that you put on wrong. You will find a lot of other uses for front nips so it isn't like a one use tool.
