Well I've had a rabbit before. I was young and stupid and did not know they were heat intolerant. It died due to my inexperience and have not even considered another one.

I like that rabbit manure is a good compost option. I was wondering if there was any way I can keep a rabbit outside near my garden in the shade with a compost area underneath? I am concerned about the heat. I work Monday through Friday and will not be home during the hottest part of the day to turn on a fan or put out frozen bottles of water. I was just wondering what others in my area did to keep rabbits, other than air conditioned building.

I do very little for my rabbits durring the summer, other than have all 4 sides of the cage open, have them in a place that is shaded ALL day and make sure they have plenty of water. Sometimes I will put two or even three bottles of water out for them on each cage so I'm sure they have plenty. Only on really hot days will I put out ice. Could you possibly watch the forecast and set up a fan that you turn on in the morning and then cut back off when you get home from work? Make sure that it is protected from rain and such of course. One other thing is that if you have one rabbit, you must have two. They are social animals and a single bunny would get quite lonely. I keep mine in seperate cages, but their cages each share one wall so they can still see the bunnies on either side and interact. If you had two girls, or fixed animals you could house them together.

Hope this helps!!! :)
