We bought 6 5 weeks old pigs 11 days ago and now some of them have developed a couple of symptoms that are concerning me. A couple of them have a raspy cough (just sporadic,) a little discharge from the nose when they sneeze and last, when I check on them in the morning some of them have their eyes glued shut with gunk. No runny eyes, just glued shut in the morning.

They'd never been out in pasture before until we got them. I thought that maybe the dirt and dust was causing some of their symptoms. I don't reallly know. For the last 2 days I've been treating them with penicillin. So far the raspy cough is gone and no signs of snot from their noses. Any ideas what could be wrong??

Have they been wormed? I just recently learned that coughing is sometimes a sign of worms!

They were supposed to be dewormed when we got them. I need to ask what dewormer they used though. The pigs we got last year had obvious signs of worms and their cough instantly went away when I dewormed them.

If they were really loaded with worms they may well need another dose.
