The time has come to get working on a goat pen so we can bring home a buddy for Hercules. He was sleeping indoors in a crate next to my bed since he fell ill a couple of weeks ago. Now that he has pulled through, it is time to give another goat a try! When we originally brought the kids home, they were sleeping in a 3'x4' enclosed dog house. It was really perfect for them. We do plan on buying a weaned doe next and I think it best we have the pen built before we do so. I was looking online at DIY goat pens and came across this pallet pen that I love. The man of the house says they will eat right through it. Any thoughts? I assumed we would have to line it with wiring, but is this even tall enough? Should we put something over the top of it as well? Also, I know the flowers on top don't stand a chance

Lots of folks use pallets to fence... @goats&moregoats built a pallet fence around her entire pasture and is doing another. Numerous folks have used pallets to enclose pigs. Folks build chicken coops out of pallets. You do have to make sure they are firmly anchored so the wind can't blow them over (The member above just lost one of her LGD's due to wind blowing down a section of her pallet fence :hit) and high enough that the goats can't climb or jump over them. Since this will be a paddock for only 2 goats (you CAN expand it later if need be) It should be fine. As for putting hot wire up, most folks would recommend it not only to keep the goats in but to keep predators out, but that could always be done later over time. Especially if the goats will be locked inside a secure enclosure (barn/shed) over night.

How large does the pen need to be? For now it will be for two goats. Their shelter is a 4'×8', wood building, with wood floors. I would like to attach the pen to the shed. The pen is just for security when we aren't home so they aren't stuck in the shed all day. They will be locked in at night, to protect from predators.
