Should I not be using this as bedding? When I was unloading the bales yesterday the 2 week old babies just attacked the rice straw bale. Its really fine textured. I pulled them off it right away and they cant get to it, just wondering before I clean out the shavings and add in the rice straw. I did buy another thing of shavings but I'd rather use the rice straw since it costs less for the amount I'd use. I know that once it gets trampled on enough they wont eat it but they go right after it for a little while at least.
I dont want to use this as my feed.. I got a bale of alfalfa for that and they get all the brush they want, I just want to know if they can munch on it without any bad things happening. I googled it but got random research and articles, one mentioned it prevents babies from absorbing all the nutrients in their feed. another said something about soaking in water to remove oxalic acid if you feed it but I'm not looking to feed it, they just eat it!
