I've never done anything like the girl did in the video I posted above, but I did train and ride a brahma bull. I used a bareback pad on him, and trained him just like a trained horses to take a rider......that is until my mother found out that I had snuck a brahma bull home. Me and a neighbor boy hid him in the woods, and used a neighbor's empty pasture for a year until we got caught.

Yes, I was one of *those* children. lol

Whatever happened to your bull once your Mom found out?

You are my hero!!!!!! :thumbsup

I have always wanted to train one to ride but have not yet. I do have a young bull who I think would be tame enough to ride I was still young enough to give it a go. I've gotten old and more than a little bit chicken, lol! I just don't heal like I once did.

Whoaaaa!! How old were you?? And how did you get the bull?? Sounds like you had an awesome childhood!
We have decided to get a very new baby to bottle feed and get her to trust us. We are probably looking at next year - in the meantime we'll visit a few ranches to check out some herds and what our area has to offer. I imagine a lot of things will unfold instinctually when it comes to training. As with any animal, love and imprinting from the start provides a good base. Here are a few pictures from an off-the-grid/writer/farmgirl/coyote-owner/gun-toting/blogger and one of her bulls. <3 I have already read several threads here and know how a lot of people feel about bulls, but wanted to share these to represent the 75% of the good sweet bulls that are out there as it seems we only get to read about the bad ones.

I was one of those kids that brought home everything. I got kicked off the school bus more than once for having a snake in my backpack.

Dynomite, the brahma, was an orphan. He was gonna be left to die, so we stole him. I guess I was around 10 years old. Me and my friend brought him home and hid him in the woods and shared the xpense of bottle raising him. A neighbor had a pasture that he didnt use, so I snuck my bull in there, lol.
He was a pretty good boy. We were foolish children though.

I got busted when my friend got horned in the crotch, not bad but enough to need the wound cleaned and bandaged. My mother walked in to find my friend laying on the couch while I cleaned the wound. It, um, looked pretty bad to my mother. When I say it looked bad, I am not talking about the wound, lol. I had to do some quick explaining and blurted out that my bull had horned him. My friend got a couple stitches and I got my behind whupped but good.

Got to keep the bull though, lol. I ended up having to move away and leave my bull with my friend.

I wouldnt say that I had an awesome childhood, but it was unique.

Raising a friendly well trained bull is possible. But it takes the right owner and the right bull. Any other combination is a recipe for disaster.

hm... well i certainly don't see why anything strong enough to hold you couldn't at least be giving the chance of being trained to ride it...
makes me want cows even more :p <3 wonder how it would look if'n i rode to my neighbor's on a cow...? he has cows. and everyone knows me as "kim's daughter... ya the crazy one..." or they don't know me... really wishing i had something i could train...
