For those of you who followed my story about how I was thrown from Rocket, I've been riding Rocket regularly 2 to 3 times a week since my fall on March 30th. She's been improving since I decided that her problem was trust in me and being green to riding trails outside of the arena and areas she was familiar with.

She's been really good lately, even though she just went into season, which usually makes most animals witchy.

Well, today as I was cleaning pen that she shares with our other mare, Scarlet, and she came over and turned her rear towards me. I moved away to the side, and she followed me with her rear. I moved several times, not wanting to be in the direct aim of a kick, but she still moved with me. Then, she flagged (moved her tail to the side to mate). I couldn't believe it. :th She wanted me to (ahem) mate with her. :gig She doesn't do that with Scarlet, who is head mare.

I guess I'm now Alpha. I guess my work with her these past weeks have paid off. I think there's a trust that wasn't there before. Today I brought one of my Malamutes, Mishka, to their pen and both mares came over to see her and me. Rocket is still nervous around dogs, but she came closer than she ever has been. Scarlet got close enough so I could pet her nose. Rocket stood close by and watched. I feel as if I've done something special, but I'm not sure what. I assume the presentation to mate means she has trust in me, yes?
