mom is saanen - dad is boer. will the offspring have horns? so far they are white like momma with long legs and have dad's large face and boer ears. both also have their mom's dangles (?). if i want them removed, should i band them like testicles? isn't he too cute!!?! just 3 hours old.

the dangles are called wattles. I love love love wattles, unfortunately none of mine have them:( Wattles can be banded, and also can be cut off at birth-from what I have heard. I have never done it. They are just basicly skin tabs and serve no purpose at all.

Beautiful kids:) Love the ears too:)

Was the mother disbudded? Does the buck (dad) have horns? Chances are they will have horns UNLESS you have some polled genetics in play with either the mom or dad.

the father was dehorned at 2 weeks. the mother was purchased at an auction and i have no info, but she has what looks like horn scars on her head. so i guess we have a decision to make . . .
i love the wattles too! i just considered them goat jewelry on the mom.

Wattles are hereditary

W -Wattles
w- no wattles

top row is mom, side is dad

WW ww
WW WW Ww

ww wW ww

Wattles also tend to be dominate. All the WWs will have wattles and most of the Ww or wW s will have wattles. - again from wht I have heard, also showed in goats I workd with along time ago.

They sure are cute!! Good luck with your decision on disbudding or not. Just remember that if you are going to keep them that if you leave them with horns and your doe and buck do not have horns then they will not have any defense against them. Just a thought ;)
