I have really wanted to get one of these so I can monitor when my doe goes into labor. The goat house is about 250' away from house and I don't have electric out there so I would have to find something wireless. Has anyone else tried this? Looking for some testimonies on this actually working or not. Also considered a baby monitor. Would love to get some feed back on this one. Thank you everyone.

I am using a pair of laptops, hooked up to the internet wireless on my home network. The camera on the laptop in the goat pen is a logitech separate from the computer so I can move it around. I broadcast to the web using Ustream, which is free if you let them show a few commercials. One problem you would have is the distance from your home router, but you can get boosters in the $100. range that would do it.
The other problem is battery time on your laptop would not last too long in the cold. I am not sure how the security hookups work, but I have an Aunt who has an "animal" camera out in the woods and can watch it in the house I will ask her how she has that hooked up.

I'm using a safety first baby monitor (video). I got it for $25 on craigslist this last summer when my $200 one broke. Works way better. My barn is quite a way from the house and it comes in perfect. Much sturdier built than one one I had. Only one camera is the only drawback. Watching 12 newborn piglets right now to make sure their heat lamp is on.

I just bought a video baby monitor (Summer brand) last night from Walmart for $84. I've been wanting one for a long time, and just did some farm-sitting to pay for it. :) I also plan on trying to put the webcam in front of the monitor so I can broadcast it over the net, but I'm not sure if that will work. Last year I bought an $85 IP camera to do that, but I never was able to get it set up correctly, so I returned it.

We have that monitor as well, it works good for what we need it for. Picture is pretty good, sound is amazing. And I love the night vision feature. It's a great monitor for the price.

I have a Uniden camera system. My barn is about 300 ft. away from the house and I had to put the receiver in our master bedroom (which is the at the end of the house closest to the barn) by the windows closest to the barn to get it to work but it works perfectly there; however... it can't be moved even three inches away or it gets no signal. It sits on my dresser and I can see it even when I'm in bed... which has still caused me many sleepless nights watching for does to go into labor but .... I don't have to get out of bed and run to the barn every hour - I just turn over and look at the dresser!! :D My barn is covered with sheet metal and the kidding stalls are 20 feet inside the barn so the fact that this system actually works so perfectly is remarkable to me.

The system I got came with two outdoor cameras (they are in the barn on my kidding stalls) and one indoor camera which we haven't hooked up yet. The receiver will show each camera individually covering the entire screen or I can divide the screen into four separate screens and watch four cameras at the same time (which I love and use when I have multiple does waiting to kid). It is a wireless system but both the cameras and receiver have to have electricity.

The pictures are very clear and the sound is great. I can hear whatever is being said in the barn. Thus, I can hear the animals if something disturbs them - I can turn it up and hear the sounds all the way across the house.

My hubby got it off Ebay a year ago for me for Christmas... best present ever and best hubby ever! :)
