Our two Jersey pail bunters are about a week old, we have had them for three days now. I finally got to the store to buy them some calf starter, was tickled pink, looking forward to giving my boys a treat but read the label to find there is added selenium in the calf starter - Brown's Frosted Flakes - that is all fine and dandy but their milk replacer also contains selenium ( Nursette Delux K), now what do I do? I had bought some rolled oats for the horse today and offered the babies a handful of that but of coarse they did not take it - I thougth they might as I was supposed to have bought the stuff with molasses in it but turns out I did not. What a bad day! Will the wee bit of starter they may eat give them an overload of selenium?

Are you in a selenium-deficient area? And how much selenium is in both the calf starter and the milk replacer?

I doubt there's enough to cause an overload. Calf starter is made to be fed along with milk replacer, because most people start them on feed before they're weaned.
