Gahh, today just was not my day :he . Not only do I think I'm coming down with the flu but Isabelle tried to strangle herself this evening! No joke. One minute I'm in the Kitchen trying to wrangle up a little lunch then the next I hear a very frightened scream from my goat pen. I was like, Now what would make them scream like that? I ran outside to find everything looked normal. Camellia was just standing there looking a little freaked and Isabelle was up on her dog house, munching the flower vines that grow from the garage wall. I didn't know what to make of it. Then I notice Isabelle turn and kinda look at me kinda funny, it took a moment before I realized what had happened.
One of the vines Isabelle was so nonchalantly chewing was twisted like a nose around her neck :barnie . I walked calmly into the pen, trying to keep her from freaking out and getting herself twisted up even worse, but the second I touched the latch to the gate my poor little girl tried to run to me. All the sudden there she is, hanging in mid air and freaking out, making the vine twist up just like I was afraid it was going to do. I ran in there and grabbed her, lifting her up just high enough so that she wasn't being strangled. I tired getting it off but the stupid vine was so twisted and wrapped it wouldn't come off. All I could do was stand there, already feeling very weak and tired and trying desperately to hold on to a struggling half grown goat, screaming for someone to get their buts out there and help me! Thankfully my dad heard me screaming and ran out their with a big ol' kitchen knife to slice the vines for me. :bow In the end Isabelle was just fine, no injuries to speak of, she even went straight back to eating like nothing had happened...I think this experience was a little more traumatizing to me than in was for her

All in all, everything turned out well, but I just can't imagine what would have happened if i hadn't ran out there when I did :barnie

Sigh* thanks guys, this whole event just got to me a little and I needed to tell someone the story. I'm really crazy in love with my goats and I just couldn't stand it if something happened. I will definitely be taking my clippers to those vines tomorrow, even if the goats are absolutely crazy about em'.

...is it just me or do goats have a tendency to find trouble no matter where they are?

It is not just you. If it is than it is just me. My goats can find trouble no matter what. I love them so much. But sometimes :smack

I heard 'that scream' this summer, went running to the barn and 2 of my kids had stuck their heads in the same hole in a cattle panel. It was ok as long as both had their heads through....but when one tried to pull out, that choked the other, so she'd try to pull out, then they'd both start choking.

Goats are mayhem magnets.

*facepalm* That would almost sound funny if it wasn't so terrible. Personally, I don't think I'll ever be able to forget "that scream" It was probably the first time I had heard it, I pray to never hear it again :fl

I still remember when Isabelle was small enough to just squeeze her head between the gate and the fence. There were a few times when I would walk out there and find she had gotten her head stuck, luckily it was never a situation where she would have choked if I hadn't found her, but still, its just another example of a goats ability to get itself in trouble

One of my goats is aptly named, Maggie Maehem (pronounced may-hem) because of the trouble she gets into

Sheep come into the world looking for a place to lay down and die.

Goast are more creative about it.

Glad everything worked out OK. She was lucky you were there.

I heard that specific "HELP ME" I"M IN TROUBLE AGAIN" scream last year, ran out the door to the new goat pasture.

Felicia had jumped up on a tree with a fork in the base and her leg was hung up at the hoof. I'm trying to lift her up and get the foot out. Now this goat has to weight 120 lbs. and I'm 64 years old and 5'2" tall but I picked her up and lifted her leg out.

I now know the meaning of "adrenalin rush" cause I had one. No way could I have picked that goat up without it!!

Fortunately Felicia wasn't hurt and I wasn't either.

DH went out to the pasture and cut down all the trees that had forked bases.

He says: you've got a bunch of trouble prone goats, I said hey, anyone with goats has got a bunch of trouble prone goats.
