Does anyone have a prefab shed for housing their goats? If so, what size? We are getting 6 or 7 nigis in 2 months and need to build some kind of "barn" for them. We are thinking of doing a shed....we looked at a 12x30' but the one my hubby likes is $11000. No, I'm not kidding.

Has anyone built a barn from scratch? What kind of space you you guys recommend, I also want to partition off a space for a milking room with a sink. Pics if you got 'em

We built a 10x20' shed with a dirt floor from scratch. I currently have 2 adults and 2 babies (keeping one) and that's really as many as I want in there, but I don't like to crowd my animals. It's divided roughly in half so they have about a 10x14' space and the smaller half is for milking and hay storage. It was actually easier and cheaper in the long run to build from scratch than the shed kit we put together for the chickens. That shed for the chickens is crap, it is literally falling apart after less than 2 years, is half the size and cost us just as much as the big goat shed (about $1000). Just had hubby build a chicken tractor from scratch since I don't trust the kit shed to hold up for more than another 2-3 years tops. It used a metal frame and wood slats were supposed to slide into the frame. The metal was thin and bent easily, the wood was cheap and warped like crazy, and the doors slid in a groove that was impossible to open the doors since the metal twisted so easy. Just my 2 cents about kits...

My barn is metal. We have 4x8's nailed up on the inside of the barn where the animals are. It gives a little bit of insulation. I would say it is colder than a wood barn but my animals do just fine in it. Give them some good straw bedding and they should be fine. The big thing is getting out of the elements including wind.
