I have a bummer ewe lamb that has what I think in pneumonia. Ears hanging low, lethargic, snotty, eating but not near as good as usual. You can hear that she is congested. I got some pennicilin for her and stated on that. One dose of 1/2 cc the first night. Then once in the morning and once at night for 2 days then went to one 1/2 cc per day. At first she was improving but since I've gone to one a day she is getting worse. Should I go back up to twice a day at 1/2 cc each? Or do I need to get an antiviral? Oh, and now her eyes are gunky.
Any help would be great. I'm new to this. Thanks.

My vet (across the pond) suggested I use a long-acting tetracycline for chest infections and gives me Resflor (florefenicol plus an anti-inflammatory,flunixin) if there is severe pneumonia. I hope that your lamb improves.
Oh just to say that Resflor is only actually licensed in GB for bovine respiratory disease, but it seems to be VERY effective in sheep.

Pen is not my first choice for respiratory. Id use something like nuflor or if I had to oxy-tet. The nuflor would be easiest to get from your vet. If lucky enough he'll sell you a big syringe full whi h you can break down into smaller doses. Otherwise a bottle of it is quite expensive.
Also some nutri-drench or similar product. To perk her up a bit.

Make sure she is warm, and in a draft free enviroment if possible! Nuflor would also be what I would suggest giving as soon as possible. Also, yes Nutri-drench, or electrolytes in her water to give her a bit of energy!!!
Gunky eyes is quite common in pneumonia.
Keep us posted on how she does!!! :fl

So. At times it seems she is improving but then shortly after it seems I'm going to lose her. I've been making sure she eats and has the electrolytes and nutri drench.
I called all the "afterhours"vets I could find. Finally Got one that called me back. He said that he could not give me the Nuflor without juming through all the hoops. However he told me to get LA200. Claimed that's probably the best that I can find otc on a Sunday and said it should do it, but if not better in a couple days I would have to take her in for heavy treatment.

I do not know her temp. I know that's lame. Im new to this and still getting stuff as I go. This started out as just raising bummer lambs but has escalated because of the illness. But she does seem to be improving just not as fast as I'd hoped.
But now, tonight I noticed her tongue looks like it's turning bluish black??? From the la200 maybe?
