I finally got some rabbits after finding what i thought was a good deal on some SFs. I was told they were 8 weeks old. I thought they were kind of small but bought a buck and doe. About a week later I found an add for some NZRs at 12 weeks and went to purchase a pair. HUGE difference in size, there is no way my little SFs are gonna grow that much in another 3 weeks. I am confused now because i can only assume the man lied about the age of the SF, but why......
I'm going to try to attach a pic of them. I put a standard brick in the cage for size comparison(closest thing I had that everyone knows the size of). What do you guys think?

Can't attach pic so here's a link

Well, you have the wrong floor wire.
Size depends on genetics, not all lines give you fast growth, but then if they were fed a natural diet, they will be slow growing.
I don't think they lied about age, genetics and feed. You should of left if you didn't like the size or should of asked first before going out there.

Based on the pic with the bricks, and my own experience, I don't think your seller lied about age. You'll be surprised how much rabbits grow wk 8 - wk 12. Rabbits have growth spurts just like kids, in my experience. Looks like a good healthy rabbit to me. Don't give up hope!

I do agree with secuono: if your floor wire is 1" x 1" dimension, you really should change it out for 1" x 1/2" dimension. Your rabbits will be much more comfortable and less apt to have foot problems.

Actually, it appears to be 1/2" x 1/2" mesh. If you look at the brick, there are 16 squares along the length, which checks with an 8" brick. The wire is fine.

I agree with the others about the size of the rabbits. Just let them mature before you start breeding.

Thanks for the replies. The floor IS 1/2" x 1/2", making the buns about 6", they fit in my palm. The pic was taken yesterday making them, according to who i got them from, 9-10 weeks. I was exited about them until I got the NZR, I know they are diffenent breeds but.... They are both meat breeds and I actually read a thread on here about the SF out performing NZ/Cals. They are healthy little rabbits, very bright and alert, always bouncing around the cage( the little blue doe likes to try to touch the ceiling). I do plan on letting them mature before breeding and then seeing how their offspring perform before making any kind of final decision. I just honestly feel like they are closer to 6-7 weeks old. Either way the kids and I are enjoying them and the NZRs, again thanks for the replies.
