small ascess ruptured

Isn't this a lovely topic?
One of my nigerian does had a small lump that was growing very slowly. It was about the size of a small egg and located on her front shoulder near her neck. Our reg vet visit is a week away and hse did not seem bothered in anyway so I have just been keeping an eye on it. Well last night it split a tiny bit. After running to get her crunchies, the exercise moved more of the substance out. It has continued through the night. Oddly it is beige and the consistency of wood putty! I have used frankincense and On Guard...essential oils that are anti bacterial, anti fungal and anti septic. Tonight as I went to use a compress to remove some more of it, was the first time she seemed to notice the thing! she twitched and tried to run from it...scratch and lick it. She is better now but no friend of mine for a while I guess.
Anyone have ideas...suggestions?

You might want to have her tested for CL

You should definitely take some of the material from the abcess and have tested.

But, in the way you describe it, it sounds more like a sterile abscess. Goats sometime get them at injection sites. That's one of the main reasons you inject behind their arm.

If you don't rub in a sub Q injection you can sometimes get an abcess at the site, paticularly with Covexn 8 CDandT vaccine.

I hope that's what it is, but you should get tested.

It's also possible that it's from an injection, but no way to know without testing.

It wouldn't show up that late, but it would stay there a long time.

Does the puss have a smell? If it doesn't have a smell and is of the consistency of which you say, I would get it tested. I've read that CL can be transmitted to humans.

The abscess would be at the injection site, if it was due to an injection. Sounds like this is on the front of the chest, between the center of the neck line and the shoulder. Could be a splinter and could be CL. CL is thick and toothpaste like, but not bloody or smelly. you can get her test for CL as mentioned, and then decide if you want to vaccinate all your goats for CL if it is positive. There is a new goat vaccine out for CL. Can look it up on Jeffers Livestock, some states still require that you get it through a vet.

Didn't sound like it was on the chest to me. "on shoulder close to neck"

Sounded like it might be at an injection site.

But, I said they should have tested.

Sterile absess is thick like toothpaste as well.
