I've noticed on the 4 day old buckling, some tiny pimple looking sores on his lips. I switched from a rubber nipple to a silcone in case he was allergic. The doeling has no signs of it. Could this be soremouth? He has one on the upper lip and one on the lower. None of my others have any sores.

You'll know for sure in a few days, it spreads like crazy.

The good news is, once they've had it, they won't get it again....usually.

I looked at pix online and it 's not like that. Just little white dot that got scabbed over. His lips seem to be clear now, but I think I spotted a white dot near his rectum. Is there anything else that causes these pimple like spots?

If it is soremouth, would they be born with it? If perhaps mama had it before? or would they have her immunity to it? or because they didn't get enough of her colostrum maybe they didn't have that immunity?

I think it's sort of like chicken pox, you have to actually have it, to have built immunity to it.

Like... my mom had chicken pox as a kid, but that didn't keep me from getting it...at 25...ick.

I don't think they've been alive long enough to have soremouth, but...I dunno anything else (aside from an allergy) that would cause it, either.

My first thought was allergy to the rubber nipple. I switched to silicone and now the lip sores are gone. I'll look closer with a qtip or tissue..at the white spot on his butt.

I hope it's not anything serious..:/

See the tiny white pimple on his butt? The doeling has one higher under her tail... What could this be?

Sounds like sore mouth, and yes they can get them near the rectum. Are the little bumps fluid filled before they dry up?

From the picture, it doesn't look like soremouth to me. Plus, there's just the one little 'zit' thingy, from what I can tell.

My guess is that it's just some kind of oddball abscess. It happens sometimes, and not all abscesses are "OMG!" situations...not that you've made it out that way, of course, but some people really freak out anytime they see a little lump or bump on a goat.

I had one get an abscess down on her ribs for no reason..another got one further up on the ribs, almost on her back...another got one right in her upper lip..we've had a few marble-sized abscesses inside the mouth where they bite their cheek... Thorns, splinters, nails driven a wee bit too far through a board in a bad spot, a loose wire on a fence...other 'bitey' goats...other goats' horns...there are inumerable things a goat can find upon which to break the skin, and they're not terribly shy about doing it.

I say drain it and flush it as best you can with iodine. I'd say there's about a 99% chance it'll heal over and you'll never see it or anything like it ever again.
