I am looking into getting hair sheep. I plan to breed. I am thinking of like 4 females and a male. How much shelter space do they need? It would also be mostly dry lot so how much space for roaming? Can I keep the ram in with the females or do I need to have separate space for him once they are bred? Can he be alone if separated?

We have hair sheep, Katahdins to be specific. We have 5 acres, we keep the ram separated from the ewes because they can multiply very fast! Katahdin ewes can lamb twice a year. We keep him on the paddock right next to the ewes though, they are separated by electric net fencing.

I’m not help regarding the dry lot though, ours are rotationally grazed on pasture.

I have goats & if sheep happened here, it'd be hair variety. That's only because of the shear and extra lanolin issues. Just a personal thing about "hair". I've shaved a lot of mini horses & they stood nicely for that -- no lay down, hang on, like sheep.
