Anyone heard or seen this breed? It's a relatively new Canadian-made breed, though created 50 years ago, it's official breed status didn't come about til four years ago (2006). It's one of those breeds, along with Herefords, that I'm interested in and am considering starting up with (when I do start up...no telling when that is) because it matches all the criteria I've been researching and deciding about for my "ideal" herd.

Check out the Canadian Speckle Park Association website for more info and pics, if anyone's curious.

Yes know all about these  read about them 4 weeks ago. I've read there is some angus in the mix ???? and the end result sounds good.
We used to have Hereford back in the UK and loved em
Have you considered Galloway ????? They work really well for us esp in a harsh winter

Yes and no. I thought that Galloways were a little more rarer here in Alberta. How are Galloways in comparison to SP's?

Not sure with comparison to the S P but can tell you that ours are 100% pasture / hay fed, live outside 12 months a year (with a shelter shed), docile and easy to handle, great mothers with no probs calving, and as a herd protect not only the calves from coyote attacks but also the sheep and lambs. We have black, dun and belted so its a very colourful field. No horns and very tasty healthy beef.
Plenty of purebred breeders in Alberta - check out the Alberta membership on the following link http://www.galloway.ca/

Galloways seem to have the same advantages as the SPs, except for differences in coat type and colour.

So I gots me some thinking to do. Thanks anyways! :)
