Okay soooo for 19 years my OTT gelding has cribbed. Every cribbing torture device has been tried/failed. Basically all the devices do is slow him down. Well as a result of this behavior, his top four teeth (all he has left in the front) are about .... 1/2 inch big, useless for grazing, obviously. He seems to eat hay, devours the mash I give him and to me looks thin, but is probably what is considered "track fit". It's 105+ degrees here in Texas so I'm hesitant to use beet pulp to help him gain weight. Supplements to Billy (gelding) basically means you're poisoning him and not easily administered, so weight builder is out of the question. He is retired and spends his days with his wife of 13 years, a 22 year old Paint mare, a 15 year old Arab mare, a 6 year old Paint mare and a 1.5 year old Paint filly. I currently pull him away from the girls twice a day for equine senior and strategy (1/2 coffe can of each) soaked in water to make a mash and coastal hay, which we will be switching to timothy/alfalfa mix once coastal is gone.
I'd really appreciate some suggestions for a feeding regiment that I can put him on in this horrible heat.
