I've has her about three months. And she was really big then. The woman who gave her to me said she has always been fat but it was possible she may be pregnant.. Oh and they are both little girls. Still don't have pics yet. I'm a little concerned tho. When I went to check on them today they had gobs of golden yellow poop caked all over their behinds and legs. With them being so young could this be a serious issue?

Silly non goat people said that's probably why she was free because she was pregnant. Yeah cause who wants a registered female who is pregnant by a registered male. And who just gave birth to two doelings for free?

There are many reasons why a goat will be free. Owners could have had issues that popped up quickly and needed to get rid of her fast, they could have been forced to move and not be allowed to take animals, Worst case scenario is she was free because she was sick. From the sound of it though you got a good deal.

We got a free goat ourselves. She wasn't in the best condition when we got her and had just been through a very rough delivery and rejected the kid. The owner knew I had wanted the goat when she was younger (I fell for her coloring) but not been able to get her then so offered her to us for free because she knew we had more of a pet herd at the time. Previous owner said she would be best as just a pet. It took us a week of giving her medication to get her back to feeling better. Now she has put on weight, is healthy and we are looking at breeding her (buck will be here starting this weekend). We know her history so we will be keeping a close eye on her when kidding time comes. Hoping she does well this time and just had issue before because of how young she was bred and not being in good condition.

ETA: Here's a head shot of my free goat. Her name is Bailey. She is a pygmy.

What a great surprise! That's how I got my third and fourth goats, they came with the Pygora doe I purchased and didn't know was bred. I also just thought she was chubby. The golden poop is normal for the first little while, but if it doesn't change or gets runnier I would have them checked.
